Objectives & Work Packages
Building climate resilience in Atlantic aquaculture
Strategies to strengthen climate adaptation in Atlantic aquaculture
CLIRAQUA aims to strengthen the resilience of aquaculture in the Atlantic Area in response to the impacts of climate change. To achieve this, the project is structured around three specific objectives, which are directly implemented through three interconnected Work Packages (WP). This framework drives scientific research, technological development, and stakeholder cooperation.
Climate impact analysis
Understanding how climate change affects aquaculture ecosystems and key species across the Atlantic Area. By analysing environmental variables and ecological dynamics, this Work Package provides the scientific basis needed to identify vulnerabilities and support sustainable planning.
Action areas
Analysis of climate impacts on marine and inland aquaculture environments
Development of interactive and georeferenced vulnerability maps
Assessment of climate sensitivity in key aquaculture species
Dissemination of scientific results through workshops
Adaptation solutions & strategies
Developing and testing innovative technologies and ecosystem-based solutions that enhance the resilience and sustainability of Atlantic aquaculture systems
Action areas
Development of adaptive management protocols for aquaculture production
Testing innovative technologies for ecosystem restoration
Implementation of monitoring systems to detect emerging environmental risks
Capacity building and knowledge transfer to stakeholders
Governance and stakeholder participation
Strengthening cooperation, knowledge exchange, and policy support to improve climate adaptation strategies. This WP connects institutions, researchers, producers, and communities
Action areas
Development of climate governance frameworks and strategies
Participatory processes with stakeholders and local communities
Creation of a digital platform for transnational collaboration
Communication, awareness, and dissemination activities
